BSc (Hons) Computer Systems and Networks |
|
I graduated second in my class in July 2005 with a First Class Honours degree in Computer Systems and Networks (CSN), from the University of Plymouth, UK.
The CSN course covers an entire range of computer science subjects from the ground up, beginning with analogue and digital electronics, mathematics, interfaces and design, computer programming (including Object Oriented programming and C), and even law (e.g. copyright laws and the Data Protection Act).
The primary focus of CSN was on networks and distributed processing. This naturally includes as much information about the 7-layer OSI network model as one would possibly wish to know, network hardware and software (e.g. network operating systems), and distributed processing models. These models included peer-to-peer and of course client/server. Telecommunications networks and hardware, database systems and Transaction Processing were also covered extensively.
For the final year of my studies, I was required to complete a project specifically linked to computer networking. I chose to undertake my project on Network Address Translation Protocol.
A-levels |
|
I attended Plymouth College of Further Education, where I was awarded A-levels in Physics and Chemistry - both at grade A.
My Chemistry course consisted of: atomic structure, bonding, periodicity, acid/base chemistry, redox, organic chemistry and nomenclature, transition elements, isomerism, energetics, kinetics, equilibria, and many laboratory experiments.
The Physics A-level covered: nuclear physics and radioactivity, relativity, quantum theory, Newtonian mechanics, electromagnetism, fluid dynamics, longitudinal and transverse waves, experimental physics, optics and mathematics. I also visited CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, as part of a supplemental trip organised by the college Physics department. It was a fascinating and awe-inspiring visit to a magnificent place at the cutting edge of human technology. The WWW was born at CERN, and I was fortunate enough to be able to see the world's first web server during the visit.
GCSE's |
|
I obtained 9 GCSE's from Callington Community College. These were: mathematics (B), English language (B), English literature (B), science double award (BB), geography (B), history (B), design & technology, and physical education.
